Driven Piles

Since its inception in 1971, Foundation has served the West Coast as a premier provider of driven pile solutions for over five decades. Our deep roots and extensive experience are evident in regions like the San Francisco Bay District, a testament to our H-pile legacy, where we’ve consistently delivered on complex deep foundation projects. Specializing in navigating diverse soil conditions, we ensure reliable and high-capacity pile driving for infrastructure and commercial developments. Our proven track record in driven pile installation and commitment to innovative techniques make us the go-to choice for construction projects seeking robust and reliable foundation systems.

What Are Steel H-Piles?

H-Piles are structural steel beams with an “H” shaped cross-section, which have been commonly used as a deep foundation system.  The piles are driven or vibrated into the ground via specialized equipment to transfer loads from the structure to deeper, more competent soil layers or bedrock.

Advantages

Of H-Piles

Proven Reliability: Decades of proven experience in diverse construction projects from refineries, bridges, waste water treatment plants, high rise building, etc.

High Load-Bearing Piling: Engineered for heavy structures, effectively transferring substantial loads to competent soil and bedrock for superior foundation support.

Penetration of Difficult Materials: Effective penetration through rock, cobbles, gravel, and dense sand, overcoming foundation limitations where displacement piles fail.

Fast Installation: Since no drill spoils are being generated and no concrete infill, efficient driving and splicing for fast-tracked projects and extended pile lengths, optimizing construction timelines.

Varying Sizes: While splicing is a general advantage of H-piles, having a variety of sizes available can optimize splicing strategies. Different-sized segments can be combined efficiently to reach the desired depth and capacity, potentially reducing waste.

Versatile H-Pile Applications: Suitable for bridges, buildings, refineries, and infrastructure projects, offering adaptable foundation solutions across diverse sectors.

Adaptable Driven Piles: Exceptional adaptability for diverse environments, including various applications with barge-based installation, ensuring robust foundation solutions.

Steel H-Pile Advantages:

  • Proven Reliability
  • High-Load Bearing Capacity
  • Penetration Through Difficult Material
  • Fast Installation
  • Splicing Efficiency
  • Exceptional Versatility

Installation Methods

1

Step 1: H-Pile is positioned under the drive head of the hammer or jaws of the vibratory hammer.

2

Step 2: The H-Pile is positioned vertically over the marked location, and the H-Pile is either driven or vibrated into the ground. As the pile is being driven into the ground, the driving resistance is carefully monitored, ensuring the pile is reaching the designed depth and achieving the required load bearing capacity.

3

Step 3: If the required pile length exceeds the length of a single H-pile section, multiple sections can be welded together.

4

Step 5: The plumbness and alignment of the H-Pile are carefully checked to ensure they meet the project specifications.

H-Pile Applications

  • H-Piles have been a prove choice to create stable foundations for high voltage transmission towers

  • H-Piles are used to support the weight of railroad bridges and trestles.

  • H-Piles are frequently used to support bright piers and abutments, particularly in areas with weak soil. Their high load-bearing capacity and ability to penetrate difficult soil conditions make them ideal for these important structures

  • Building foundations (hospitals, parking garages, high-rise buildings, etc.)

  • Supporting earth retaining systems

  • Due to their ability to penetrate difficult soil types, H-Piles are used in areas where other foundation types are not feasible.
