Rigid Inclusions
Foundation brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Rigid Inclusion projects. With thousands of rigid inclusions installed throughout California, our team is equipped to deliver exceptional solutions that meet the highest standards of safety and value.
What are Rigid Inclusions?
Rigid Inclusions, also known as auger cast columns, or high columns, are a ground improvement method used to enhance the stability and reduce the settlement of structures. This technique can be installed using two methods: either displacing existing soil or using a continuous flight auger (CFA) and injecting concrete into the ground to form columns. The resulting columns provide strength and stiffness to the foundation, maximizing its ability to support loads.
Liquefaction Mitigation: When applied with high replacement ratios in suitable soil conditions, Rigid Inclusions effectively increase soil density, significantly reducing the risk of liquefaction in vulnerable areas.
Reduced Settlement: By improving the load-bearing capacity of the ground, Rigid Inclusions help to minimize settlement, preventing damage to buildings and other structures.
Enhanced Load-Bearing Capacity: Rigid Inclusions provide increased strength and stiffness, allowing foundations to support heavier loads without compromising structural integrity.
Versatility: With the ability to be used in a wide range of soil conditions, Rigid Inclusions are a versatile solution for various foundation construction projects.
Rigid Inclusions Advantages:
- Boosts foundation stability
- Minimized ground settlement
- Increases load capacity
- Highly versatile in various soil conditions
- High production rates
- Economical foundation solution
Installation Process
Step 1: Comprehensive assessment: We conduct thorough site investigations and soil testing to accurately assess the ground conditions and determine the optimal Rigid Inclusion design. Foundation tailors ground improvement solutions to meet the specific needs of each project, considering factors such as load requirements, soil conditions, and environmental constraints.
Step 2: A specialized drilling auger advances into the ground utilizing torque and downward pressure. Since this is a displacement pile, the soil is displaced laterally in the soil strata.
Step 3: Once the desired depth is reached, grout is injected under pressure through the auger as it is slowly withdrawn.
Rigid Inclusion Applications
- Industrial and commercial buildings
- Liquefaction mitigation
- Vibration and noise sensitive construction sites
- Areas susceptible to settlement
- Urban infill and high-density construction zones
- Projects with contaminated soils or sites where soil off-haul is not cost-effective.
