Driven Piles

For over five decades, since its inception in 1971, Foundation has solidified its position as a premier provider of driven pile solutions throughout the West Coast.  Specializing in complex deep foundation projects, our expertise extends to navigating diverse soil conditions, ensuring reliable and high-capacity pile driving for infrastructure and commercial developments.  Our proven track record in driven pile installation and commitment to innovative techniques make us the go-to choice for construction projects seeking robust and reliable foundation systems.

What Are Pipe Piles?

As a form of deep foundation, pipe piles, which are hollow steel cylinders (sometimes close ended), are installed via driving, drilling (see TUBEX & EDTTEX pages), or vibration to transmit substantial loads to stable subsurface soil.

Advantages

Of Pipe Piles

Proven Reliability: Decades of proven experience in diverse construction projects.

Challenging Soil Conditions: Pipe piles have proven to be effective in poor soil conditions, including soft bay mud and loose sands.

Durable Pipe Piles for Harsh Environments: Can be coated to assist with mitigating corrosion for demanding applications, ensuring long-lasting foundation integrity in diverse conditions.

Versatile Open and Close-Ended Configurations: Adaptable pipe pile configurations, including open or closed-ended options, for diverse soil conditions, contaminated sites, and project requirements.

Adaptable Driven Piles for Marine Construction: Exceptional adaptability for diverse environments, including marine applications with barge-based installation, ensuring robust foundation solutions.

Pipe Pile Advantages:

  • Can Withstand Highly Corrosive Environments
  • Open or Close Ended and Sizing Versatility
  • Highly Adaptable
  • Low Overhead Pile Installation Capabilities
  • Highly Versatile
  • Suitable for Harsh Environments

Installation Methods

1

Step 1: The Pipe Pile is lofted and positioned under the drive head of the hammer or jaws of the vibratory hammer.

2

Step 2: The Pipe Pile is positioned vertically over the marked location, and the Pipe Pile is either driven or vibrated into the ground. As the pile is being driven into the ground, the driving resistance is carefully monitored, ensuring the pile is reaching the designed depth and achieving the required load-bearing capacity.

3

Step 3: If the required pile length exceeds the length of a single Pipe Pile section, multiple sections can be welded together.

4

Step 5: The verticality and alignment of the Pipe Pile are carefully checked to ensure they meet the project specifications.

5

Step 6: If needed, the top of the pile is cut off at the required elevation and a pile cap is installed.

Pipe Pile Applications

  • Pipe Piles have been a proven choice to create stable foundations for high voltage transmission towers

  • Pipe Piles are used to support the weight of railroad bridges and trestles.

  • Pipe Piles are frequently used to support bright piers and abutments, particularly in areas with weak soil. Their high load-bearing capacity and ability to penetrate difficult soil conditions make them ideal for these important structures.

  • Building foundations (hospitals, parking garages, high-rise buildings, etc.)

  • Oil and gas infrastructure

  • Marine environments
